My son was born during COVID-19.
This means that I never got the chance to travel far with him.
But now that my husband and I are fully vaccinated, we decided to make the long-haul trip to Bangladesh so our baby can finally meet his grandparents.
Packing for this trip was not as easy as I thought. But as usual, with a good amount of research and tons of advice from mom buddies, we made it work!
I’m sure there are other mothers out there who are planning to travel with their toddlers.
Here are some tips for moms who are planning trips – especially to Asia – with their young toddler in tow.
3 Must-Have Things To Have When Traveling With A Toddler
Loaded Backpack
A backpack full of toddler snacks, make it their favorites! I researched for a backpack with at least two pockets. The main pocket is to fit a tablet and favorite snacks. Smaller accessible front pockets are great easy access hand wipes, tissues and sanitizing products.
Oh, and your toddler won’t actually wear the backpack so make sure the straps are loosened enough to throw on your back, too.
Entertaining Content
An iPad or content-loaded tablet works the best. This is an underrated trick. Tablets, also known as free-babysitters. Wi-Fi might be a challenge so make sure the tablet is full of the latest most favorite shows and movies – all already downloaded! For my son, there were lots of episodes of Cocomelon and Over the Moon from Netflix. I also loaded some easy toddler apps, such as a coloring app so add some interaction to the mix.
Travel Gear
A lightweight travel stroller is a must-have. Okay, I’ll be honest. I have 3 strollers at home and I purchased this one just for traveling since this stroller was the smallest and most compact one on the market. The best feature that hooked me was that it fits in the overhead compartment. After 1 test use, I knew this stroller would replace everything I have. It is that good, moms! Just get this. For travel or daily use, this stroller is simply magical. It is everything it promises.
From getting on boarding lines to folding it as I walked onto the plane to unfolding it with the press of a button and shaking it open, this stroller was AMAZING. Hands down the best travel item on this shortlist of 3 tips, don’t book a ticket without this!
Bonus: Some tips to keep your child entertained during long flights
1. Novelty toys: NEW is the keyword here. If your toddler has seen it before, the charm is over! Think different colored slime, silly putty, activity book, attractive sticker sheet.
2. Loose comfortable and stretchy clothing. You will operate in tight spaces. Make diaper changes easy with easy pull-down jogger pants and loose layered t-shirts and jackets with zippers (no pullovers).
3. Forget about the sugar intake, pack the extra M&M’s. Easy no mess snack that will work during tantrums.
Are you planning a trip with your toddler? Asia is a great destination for its culture, heritage and – as a self-proclaimed foodie – all the yummy food!
